Each tablet of Heptral 200/400 contains Ademetionine or S-adenosyl-L-methionine 200 mg or 400 mg. S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a derivative of the amino acid methionine and is a naturally-occurring substance distributed throughout the human body. It is present in all living cells and takes part in many biochemical reactions in the body and it is important for a large number of metabolic pathways in the body. Ademetionine is not easily available from typical dietary sources.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: 200-mg tablet: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Mannitol, Carboxymethylstarch sodium salt, Colloidal sillica, anhydrous, Magnesium stearate, Methacrylic acid copolymer, Titanium dioxide, Triethyl citrate.
400-mg tablet: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Mannitol, Carboxymethylstarch sodium salt, Colloidal sillica, anhydrous, Magnesium stearate, Methacrylic acid copolymer, Titanium dioxide, Triethyl citrate, Stearic Acid.
Heptral 200/400 is used in adults for: Supporting healthy liver function, reduction of tiredness and fatigue; Providing general liver tonic effect; Supporting healthy mood balance.
This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Adults: Take 1 or 2 tablets per day or as directed by the healthcare professional. Benefits are most likely evident after 7-14 days and are maintained with continued use. The maximum daily dose of 1600 mg (8 tablets of 200-mg or 4 tablets of 400-mg).
Heptral 200/400 tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed.
For better absorption of the active ingredient and complete therapeutic effect, Heptral 200/400 tablets should not be taken with meals.
Heptral 200/400 tablets should be extracted from the blister package immediately before use. Do not use if outer printed seals are broken or missing.
Children: Heptral 200/400 is not recommended for use in children.
Cases of overdose with Heptral 200/400 appear to be rare. Physicians should contact their local poison control centers. In general, patients should be monitored and supportive care should be provided.
People with genetic defects affecting the methionine cycle and/or causing homocystinuria and/or hyperhomocysteinemia (e.g. cystathionine betasynthase deficiency, Vitamin B12 metabolism defect) must not use Heptral 200/400.
If the patient is sensitive or allergic to the active substance or to any of the inactive ingredients, do not use this product.
Some patients may experience dizziness with the use of Heptral 200/400. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery until reasonably certain that Heptral 200/400 therapy does not affect their ability to engage in such activities.
If the patient is taking prescription psychiatric medications, consult a physician before using this product.
People with bipolar disorder (maniac-depressive illness) should not use Heptral 200/400 unless under medical supervision.
This product may cause anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.
If the patient is pregnant or nursing, Heptral 200/400 should not be used unless under medical supervision.
Ademetionine can sometimes cause nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence, dizziness and headache. If the patient experiences any side effects, talk to a physician. This may include possible side effects not listed in this monograph.
Allergic reactions may occur. These include rash, pruritus, urticaria and rarely throat and facial swelling. Consult a physician if they occur.
